From Elly Grant, Macquarie Park
"A real highlight was helping David, a cerebral palsy participant, achieve a lifelong goal of climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge!"
From Hazel Anne Maderazo, Support Office
"Working in Better Rehab makes me feel appreciated and acknowledged. I feel that I am well-supported in every decision that I make, and that my colleagues genuinely care about my well-being – both personally and professionally. My supervisors trust me to produce high-quality work, which ultimately boosts my confidence to deliver nothing less."
From Nicole Karet, Support Office
"I love the fact that I've made such good friends at Better Rehab that I've been invited to their weddings. This year's was Ali's. I even caught the bouquet!"
From Marife Antuerpia, Support Office
"I love having a healthy work-life balance. Better Rehab respects my personal time, so I can completely enjoy it! More than that, I was able to understand the value of my work because of the boundless support I receive from the team. I have an incredibly supportive manager and colleagues, who I am genuinely grateful for. "
From Ian Gerrard, Support Office
"I've really enjoyed interviewing Better Rehabbers (like Maddy from Central Coast) throughout the year - and collecting bloopers. Can't wait to play the full Better Rehab Blooper Reel at the National Meeting...!"
From Sarah Bourne, Blacktown
"A real highlight for me has been watching the Blacktown team grow from 1 to 15 over the past year!!! Coming in each day is easy when you work with like-minded individuals who genuinely care and are passionate about the work they do for their participants."

From Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra
"I am so proud of my two sites - Wollongong and Canberra. They are now set up in a way that warmly welcomes clients and equips clinicians to have everything they need to do their jobs effectively. The renovations in Wollongong have also united the team, allowing us to have lunch breaks together where we can blow off some steam and have a laugh. We all take our jobs very seriously, but having that designated space to catch our breath before we crack on again has made a huge difference!"
From Travis King, Cockburn & Inglewood
"I'm very proud of the 12-month work I've had with an ASD participant, who was referred into Better Rehab for a strengthening exercise program to aid in his toe walking. At the time of the referral, the participant had an increased risk of falls and reduced ability to tolerate volunteering work or paid employment. Since then, this participant is now heel striking when mobilising in the home and the community, and even attends to the gym weekly! This has improved his health and fitness, allowing him to take part in his first paid employment at his local tavern. He is excited to continue with his Exercise Physiology service to see what else he can continue to improve on."
From Ana Rose Atienza, Support Office
"Joining Better Rehab gave me so much more than what I initially expected. Within one year of working with the team, I grew my knowledge exponentially. The team is also very appreciative even of the smallest contributions I've had. This makes work really motivating! I am beyond grateful for the opportunity Better Rehab has given me. I am looking forward for more years of career growth with fun at Better Rehab. #LoveWhatYouDo"
From Megan Mott, Dee Why
"I've been with Better Rehab for nearly two years now, and have been able to help my participants achieve some amazing outcomes. My participant Josh was able to complete the City2Surf in 1:44:14 with his support worker, which is an amazing effort for someone who didn’t run three months earlier! We’ve been working together to build his strength, endurance, and confidence. It's so exciting to see his hard work pay off, and his mental health improve because of it."
From Natalie Paull, Cockburn
I loved seeing the joy in my participant Paul when we all sang karaoke with him at the end of our joint OT-SP visit.
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"Over the year, I have had the privilege to work with a young lady on multiple goals — all of which she has achieved and more! One of these goals was to reduce reliance on takeaway, and develop the skills to cook nutritious meals for herself. She has been so excited with this new level of independence, so much that she has invited her closest family and friends over for a Christmas dinner party where she will be cooking for them. Check out the menu! I am bursting with pride."
From Meryn Betbeder-Matibet, Bankstown
"It's been such a joy to help out Amin who has cerebral palsy. He is minimally verbal, but the most social person you’ve ever seen! He’s so funny and loves to joke around, and make fun of people. We gave him an app on his iPad which let him tell people his jokes. We wrote down his jokes such as ‘Imran is stinky’, ‘Get back to work, you’re being lazy’, ‘I’m the boss, you’re fired.’ He has been using the iPad to engage with other people and he never fails to have the whole room laughing and engaging with his jokes."

From Steph Bates, Moonee Ponds
"One of my highlights this year is when we raised money for the 'Jeans 4 Genes Day' with our mascot Moose!"
From Zoe Dixon, Surrey Hills
"One of my highlights for 2022 has been supporting my participant Birol with finally obtaining his new manual wheelchair with power assist wheels. He was so excited and could barely wait until it was properly set up to take it for a spin. This AT means he can now access the community without support, and can go to St. Kilda beach to enjoy the boardwalk. Birol also hopes to travel with his new wheelchair to visit his family overseas."
Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra

From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"I'm extremely proud to have had three highly complex and custom powered wheelchairs approved this year! The total cost of these 3 wheelchairs is approximately $110,000.00!!!!!!!! These PWCs are lifechanging for my participants! It’s also so exciting to share these wins with the MDT who have put so much effort and time into ensuring the AT is provided."
From Victoria Vlahadamis, Penrith
"A standout highlight for me is the amazing people I get to work with every single day at Penrith, who have made the first 6 weeks of working here an absolute joy! I've enjoyed how the team get involved in initiatives, and prioritise not only working together as an MDT but also socialising together — lunch times and social outings are never boring! Everyone here is full of knowledge & guidance, and is never afraid to lend a helping hand to make sure everyone reaches their potential. I am especially grateful for my supportive office manager and supervisor who have made my onboarding process so easy as well!"

From Nathan Flanagan, Mulgrave
"I have loved adding clinical supervisor responsibilities to my role as TL since the Betterment changes. It's been great to have more shadow opportunities and sharing learning with other SPs. It has also been great to see how the change has been supportive to the clinicians (of another discipline) who I used to supervise operationally. We have come together as a team to continue to provide quality MDT service and support each other!"
From Ryan Askey, Alexandria
"Loved the idea of the Better Connected day this year! It was great to head to the office and get to shadow Rebecca S in Macquarie Park for the day. Unfortunately, the clinic visits were all cancelled; however, she was able to share with me the reports, ins and outs and lots of wins!"

From Heidi Robertson, Macquarie Park
"A massive highlight for me was supporting one of my clients, Kaelen, in obtaining his L-plates and in getting a part-time job! He has been working so hard and it's so rewarding to see him absolutely smashing his goals!"

From AJ Soriano, Support Office
"I never thought that working with Better Rehab would ever be this exciting! We work, help, and motivate each other everyday, and at the same time we got to do what we really love to do. There’s a lot of things about Better Rehab that still makes me feel like I’m dreaming. I’m grateful for the trust that they’ve always provided — it really brings out the best in each of us. Looking forward for more years of learning, growth, and of course, a lot of fun!"
From Mitchell Peate, Joondalup
"One of my proudest achievements this year was helping a participant with Friedreich's Ataxia. He hasn't walked or completed a step transfer for nearly a year. He has now started walking with his frame and completed step transfers with assistance of only one person! This was after him thinking he would never be able to do that again. Our goal for next year is for him to be able to dance with his girlfriend for the first time, and we are well on the way!"

From Megan Mott, Dee Why
"I am extremely proud of my participant who recently won 5 gold medals in Queensland at her gymnastics competition that we have been training for! I love that we can help our participants work towards achieving their goals and celebrate their wins."
From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast
"At the Gold Coast office, we are such a close team and really do just love each others company that we just had to celebrate Christmas twice. After we did Secret Santa, we all went out to celebrate at our local."
From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast
"A big highlight for the year was definitely our mid-year party. We all decided to do Paint & Sip where we used our skills to create some beautiful artwork (some arguably more beautiful than others)."
From Mitchell Peate, Joondalup
"I had a participant who, at the start of the year, could not walk to her local shops. She is now able to walk to her local shops and back to her house!"

From Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra
"One of the major highlights for me this year is the regular get-to-togethers. Whether it be celebrating the 'Worlds Biggest Morning Tea, each others birthdays or life events like weddings or having babies, Better Rehab is always willing to fund our events. But even those that aren’t funded, Better Rehab still encourages our gatherings and get involved when possible. This is another reason why I love working here, and I'm super confident in saying that we have the greatest workplace culture ever!"

From Travis King, Cockburn & Inglewood
"What has made me proud this year is we've worked together to commence AHA group trainings once a month as the AHA have expressed their willingness to continue to improve. Clinicians get involved and rotate who presents a topic, and provides recommendations on training that the AHA can take part in. Last month we organised hoist/sling training at Daily Living Products."

From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"One of my highlights was helping a client design and build her own home — a two-year journey from seeing the plain block of land, having the scaffolding, to her now living in a beautiful accessible home. We also got her a mobility scooter that allows her to spend time with her kids at the park and beach down the road. This was the dream she always spoke about, and it's so heartwarming to see her living it!"

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
“Our managers honestly love and care for our team, and show that love daily. Their leadership style and mentoring are calm and pleasant, which makes me excited to show up and do my best every working day."
From Meryn Betbeder-Matibet, Bankstown
"Our office in Bankstown has had so many fun socials over the year! It’s been a lot of fun getting to spend time together and do things I wouldn’t have thought to do otherwise."

From Megan Mott, Dee Why
"One of our teams highlights from this year was creating some ‘artistic’ pieces in a pottery class for our mid-year party! We love that we get to spend time together as a team doing fun activities. "
From Alyssa Velasquez, Canberra
“One of the biggest plot twists I had this year was joining Better Rehab. The company gave me the opportunity to move to Australia, which I will be forever grateful for. Coming from the Philippines, the jump was a huge thing for me, and I will always be thankful to the Canberra Team for making Australia my home away from home. Everyone was patient in teaching me the Aussie way of life, and all the Aussie slangs! From Brollies to Snags, chucking an U-ey to Sangas. I can’t wait to explore all of Australia and experience every milestone with the Better Rehab team. "
From Chris Doroudgar, Alexandria
"The Better Connected program enabled us to shadow clinicians and see what they do on the ground, and I personally look forward to this program every year. This year, I shadowed SP Savannah from Maroubra and had an amazing session! Savannah asked her participant to do some exercises and it was amazing to see him improve in each time attempted. Seeing that progress really hit home for me, and it was great to witness!"

From Adwait Athawale, Penrith
"I loved visiting our Better Rehab offices this year to capture the passion & care every single one of our clinicians puts into their work and the community. I believe I've captured the literal sparkle in our clinicians’ eyes when they speak about working at Better Rehab and the support they are able provide to their participants. Lastly, seeing how all the offices are consistently so vibrant, collaborative, and fun is evidence that at Better Rehab — we ARE Better Together!"
From Selah Dimech, Springwood
"So many of our participants unfortunately have a history of falling through the cracks with multiple stakeholders & service providers, and difficulty communicating their needs. I was proud to support Laura, a Schizophrenic participant, in seeing her sister who lives 2+ hours away in a nursing home by liaising with her support team. This has made the world of difference to her quality of life, and she will now be visiting her sister on a regular basis!"

From Travis King, Cockburn & Inglewood
"What makes me love work is that in Cockburn and Inglewood WA, we have encouraged our staff to bring their pets to the office for a positive work culture."

From Peter Michael, Support Office
"It’s absolutely insane how good everyone at Better Rehab has been to work with! Especially my P&C team, who not only work amazingly hard but are also an absolute pleasure to work with."
From Steph Bates, Moonee Ponds
"I told my mum about our Better Flex program and she was amazed at how progressive and inclusive a workplace Better Rehab is!"
From Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra
"I have no idea how we ever survived without the Support Team!!! Having them action the SA’s, Audits and KMs allows Office Managers to really be on top of things and provide the highest level of customer service that reflects so well on Better Rehab."
From Meryn Betbeder-Matibet, Bankstown
"I loved seeing my participant Alex, who has Huntington’s Disease, use his voice amplifier to speak more easily to others! His friends love his ‘new voice.’ 🙂 "
From Steph Bates, Moonee Ponds
"I love connecting with trans and gender diverse participants with shared experiences!"

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
"I love how we're asked for an opinion on a regular basis, and we are allowed to speak our minds without fear. We are all working towards a common goal after all!”

"I love that Better Rehabbers get to celebrate Christmas in the office with our dogs!"
From Megg Collins, Inglewood
"I love being part of the Better Rehab Inglewood team because I'm well supported by all my colleagues, particularly my supervisor and team leaders. They're always willing to take time to help me clinically and personally. Better Rehab fully supports work-life balance, and recognises the importance of prioritising personal needs, which ultimately results in my ability to achieve great results for my participants."
From Travis King, Cockburn & Inglewood
"What makes me love my job is that we have noticed a reduced WFH! Also, more staff are willing to engage in culture activities for team bonding."
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"I loved our mid-year party! We did Paint & Sip followed by karaoke. I was not good at either, but we were better together! "
From Selah Dimech, Springwood
"One memorable moment I have was helping my participant Arthur learn how to send and receive emails so he could independently arrange a holiday through sending quotes/receipts to his Public Trustee."

From Steph Bates, Moonee Ponds
"I really love the booth we have at Moonee Ponds!"
From Meryn Betbeder-Matibet, Bankstown
"It was so much fun helping David to write and practice a speech for his 60th birthday party, as well as filming his virtual invitation!"
From Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra
"The regular ‘Have Your Say’ surveys is such a great way for people to provide feedback in a safe manner without fearing repercussions."

From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"I feel immensely lucky, proud, and celebrated working at Better Rehab for over three years now. I received such a stunning bouquet of flowers to wish me congratulations on my wedding in two weeks time. My teammates in Mulgrave always show their love & excitement for me, and listen to my daily wedding stresses. It’s so special sharing these life milestones with such a beautiful team of people
From Selah Dimech, Springwood
"I feel proud to have supported my participant Tharren access more than triple his funding package so he can commence working on independent living skills. His goal to move out of his family home and live with his fiancé & soon-to-be wife!"
From Ali Carter-Miller, Alexandria
"I love that I have such wonderful friends at work who are like family. Everyone genuinely cares about one another, and we always celebrate each other’s achievements and events in life — which is not something that you could get at every work place!"
From Steph Bates, Moonee Ponds
"Axe threw a mid-year party for Moonee Ponds!
From Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra
"I've seen a huge change in the clinicians having a supervisor of the same discipline. I've had multiple clinicians say that their supervision is so much more beneficial, and has a really positive impact on them & their overall happiness at work."
From Ali Carter-Miller, Alexandria
"I love that I have such wonderful friends at work who are like family. Everyone genuinely cares about one another, and we always celebrate each other’s achievements and events in life — which is not something that you could get at every work place!"

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
"Getting feedback is an important part of loving your job. While praise is motivating, constructive criticism also helps me improve and advance in my expertise. Having a clear understanding of how I'm performing at work is a good feeling. A major part of loving my job is being able to know how my manager thinks and feels about my performance. The monthly one-on-one and coaching make me feel that Better Rehab sees, hears, and values my work."

From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"It’s the small things that I love at Better Rehab. One of the best perks, and undoubtedly my favourite thing about the Mulgrave office, is our snack pantry. I would genuinely be lost without my morning coffee, pre-lunch cookie, post-lunch chippies, and late arvo choccie. It's so nice to stroll into the kitchen and chat with a teammate whilst we snack it out!"

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
“I am treated with respect, supported with daily encouragement, and given clear directions so that I'm able to do my tasks to the best of my abilities. I feel very valued for what I bring to Better Rehab."
From Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra
"The Office Manager Rewards program has a huge impact on Office Managers' motivation level, and its only been a few weeks! I can’t wait to see the results at the end of the month. This incentive has really made me feel appreciated just like the clinicians, and having the opportunity to earn points is very exciting."

From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"I love how everyone is celebrated at Better Rehab, especially the birthdays with the infamous Birthday Wheel. I could be biased as I have received ½ day off two years in a row. How lucky!"

From Thanh Nguyen, Bankstown
“This year, the Bankstown BR office joined together to play in a local Oz Tag competition. We represented BR with its logo on our jersey, and BR value of 'We are People People.' It was a lovely way for the team to bond and keep healthy. We are hoping to win the competition!”

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
"I love the hybrid set-up. It just works for us! Better Rehab understands the benefit of employees working from home. Time spent in traffic is spent in productive work instead. I also have more time for personal errands after my shift. Additionally, seeing my teammates once a month allows us to communicate and collaborate effectively and efficiently, plus it promotes camaraderie."

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
"Better Rehab invests in every employee’s future by giving trainings and sending staff to conferences. It makes me feel prepared for the next level, and even more driven in performing my role in the team."

From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"One of my all-time favourite highlights this year was seeing my participant sit on her glorious new custom HOT PINK Smart Seat Pro! She was previously sitting on a standard couch with no support whatsoever. Her new Smart Seat Pro has a custom-made head rest, and she's been set up beautifully with customised positioning — just perfect for her seating needs. 💖
Straight after the trial, the AT Form was submitted. Only two months later, she received the AT! She can now use her laptop, complete her homework, and eat safely."

From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"I love how our work is recognised and rewarded. This year I was able to enjoy a private chef experience at home, which I surprised my family with. It was AMAZING! This is not something I would have ever thought of or done without the blessings of Better Rewards. I am very grateful!"

From Rebecca Staple, Mulgrave
"I love how much Better Rehab has allowed me to grow as a clinician in the three years I’ve been working here. Before I started, the idea of getting someone a communication device seemed like a daunting and impossible task. Today, I have a little squad of participants who have successfully received devices and are working their way towards their communication goals. It feels amazing to see all the hard work pay off, and to see the pride on their face when they say something they couldn’t before."

From Megan Mott, Dee Why
"The aid we receive at Better Rehab from the PCs is amazing. It helps us improve as clinicians so we can better help our participants. I was supported earlier this year to trial a Rifton pacer with a participant, which will allow him to walk at his workplace. The smile on his face was so uplifting and everyone applauded him as he walked the corridors. It was a great moment and one I will always remember."

From Nathan Flanagan, Mulgrave
"We loved working with a great Mulgrave MDT made up of SP, OT, PT and AHA to support our participant, Pete, who is waiting on the delivery of the new 'Pete's Beast' (Pete's scooter). Our session was bittersweet as we saw the benefits of all 3 disciplines when accessing the local pub: walking, driving his scooter, ordering our drinks at the bar and carrying his drink to our table.
Pete has previously presented at the bar sober but has been refused a drink because of his Dysarthria. Part of his SP goals was to improve his speech by giving him strategies to help others understand him, which were clearly successfully used today. Cheers to Pete!
Here are all the clinicians who worked with Pete: Nathan Flanagan (SP), Anita Bjorkman (OT), Radhika Joshi (PT), Vincent Ong (AHA), and Celine Lim (AHA)."
From Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra
"Allowing clients to identify as non-binary and list their preferred pronouns is an amazing way to show how accepting Better Rehab is of the LGBTQIA+ community! This is another reason I am proud to work for such an amazing company."

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
"Having friends at work improves my productivity. They encourage, motivate, and extend help whenever I need it. I feel included and don't feel lonely even if we work remotely. I always look forward to working and collaborating with them in person."

From Cheralyn Lie, Wollongong
"I absolutely loved getting to know my team this year and spending all sorts of special moments with them — celebrating weddings, life drawing, golf, discovering new bars, competitive card games and dance offs! You never know what’s next in store with our team. I love that we welcome people with open arms, and don’t hesitate to share our lives with each other. Thanks, Gong Gang!"

From Jessica Nosworthy, Queensland
"One thing I loved this year is being able to bring my fur-child Zeke into the office! He had the best time getting all the pats throughout the day!"

From Monica Damian, Wollongong
"Through BR, I've been given the opportunity to become a driver-trained Occupational Therapist, which is something that I have always wanted to pursue. This year, I was able to help participants return to an occupation that gives them independence, while ensuring their safety and in turn the community!"

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
"I love how my boss logically addresses issues. If there's an issue, we work as a team to address it without attacking each other. She doesn't blame others but assesses what went wrong, how we can avoid it moving forward, and work on resolving it as a team."

From Selah Dimech, Springwood
"Shout out to Rebecca Gant for supporting Pat access the most photo-worthy ramp! Because of this ramp, Pat can now access his front door from the street whilst using his wheelchair. I walked up the ramp recently and it felt like I was on a relaxing boardwalk right outside his home!"
From Sally Lamshed, Moonee Ponds
"I love working in forensic disability to support people transitioning out of prison (and in and out and in again), and getting the opportunity to share my passion with others. If you’re reading this, go on, give it a try, talk to me — I’ll only talk about it all day."

From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"It’s been such a privilege to watch my participant make such great gains by implementing her ‘remindables’ weekly visual chart. My participant feels so much more organised, independent, and less anxious as she moves into year 12 next year. Prior to using the visual chart, she used to not remember when her OT appointment was, and was reliant on her mum to tell her. Now, she has a great strategy to recall what day and time her regular OT appointment is and feels prepared!"
From Brooke Lacey, Wollongong and Canberra
"As part of the trial sites for the calendar update, I played a huge part in providing feedback, and it was all taken onboard and actioned as best as possible. I can't even remember what the old calendar was like anymore, but I can definitely say this one is much better!"

From Rebecca Staple, Mulgrave
"I love the dog-friendly vibes at the Mulgrave office – and Sally loves it too!"

From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"I love how Better Rehab provides us with high quality professional development. My favourites this year were learning the CO-OP approach, and the sessions with Permobil on powered mobility devices. These opportunities are invaluable."
From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast

From Rebecca Staple, Mulgrave
"I love the dog-friendly vibes at the Mulgrave office – and Sally loves it too!"

From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Completing my first complex home mods front access ramp was a HUGE win for me this year. I couldn’t have done it without my legendary supervisor, Ash Wheatley!"

From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast
"One of my highlights this year was getting to attend a community appointment at a farm where they also breed sausage dogs."
From Cheralyn Lie, Wollongong
"A huge highlight for me was working with our AHA Jen in trialling AAC for a participant with highly complex needs. He's been non-verbal for about 30 years, and seeing his reaction during a Go Talk trial when taking part in some banter with us was absolutely unforgettable!"
From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast
"A real Better Rehab Bachelor Moment: One of my participant’s goals has always been to start dating. However, when I first started supporting him, he had some social anxiety and some socially inappropriate behaviours. He’s come a long way since then, and with a lot of encouragement, has started going to a social group. He recently shared with me that he went on his first date with a girl he met in his social group and he couldn’t be happier"

From Megan Mott, Dee Why
"This year has been amazing to watch my participant Wenton’s transfers become much easier with the use of an Ambiturn lifter. He is now more confident when transferring, and also has been empowered to make sure that his support staff know how to transfer him safely without his feet getting caught. The smile on his face says it all!"

From Selah Dimech, Springwood
"I was proud to represent the Better Rehab value of “Love what you do.” and “Frankly, we give a damn!” when presenting my research at a national conference earlier this year. It was so encouraging to have Rachel and the team be my cheering squad for the presentation. I'm also very thankful for my Springwood team for allowing me to practice with them beforehand."

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
"I'm able to do things outside work without interruption, which allows me to unwind and recharge so I can give my best when I go back to work. Better Rehab is true to its "Love what you do" value."

From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Better Rehab is such a special place because I've made lifelong friends, and love spending time with my colleagues both in and out of work!"
From Cheralyn Lie, Wollongong
"When I think back to the year, a lot of what stands out are the little (but at the same time huge) wins that we get. I love that I get to witness my participants learning to ask for help to put on their shoes, using a new device to tell me to “pick up 5!” in Uno, and telling me “I’m tired!” rather than lashing out. It’s these moments that really remind me that I love doing what we do!"
From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast
"One of my clients was having behavioural outbursts where she was injuring herself and others roughly 3 to 5 times per week when I first started seeing her. Her outbursts have been slowly reduced, and at her last review meeting with her support team, they said that the strategies seem to be working as she hasn't had an outburst in more than 2 months! So proud of her!" Rehab is true to its "Love what you do" value."

From Megan Mott, Dee Why
"Earlier this year, I met a lovely gentleman who had a life changing accident. He previously was a lifeguard and loved swimming. With the support of his MDT team and support workers, he's still able to swim 30 laps of the pool every week, showing how working together can really benefit our participants! "

From Selah Dimech, Springwood
"I created the Plush Pod this year with my favourite ‘morning check-in’ colleagues. Our desks are full of plush toys to help us feel at home and connected."
From Kirsten Burke, Stones Corner
"I am so excited and proud to see and hear about the amazing reputation our Better Rehab physiotherapists have at providing exceptional, high-quality care to their participants. There are so many different ways that we can see the impact of their excellence from 100% audit compliance, no clinical complaints since March 2022 nationally, and so much more. Watching all the physiotherapists learn about postural assessment and equipment prescription, hearing the amazing stories of new walking frames and trikes fills me with so much pride.
To top it off — after reviewing our national caseloads and comparing them to the NDIS demographic data, it is incredible to see that our physiotherapists see 20% of all MND participants on the NDIS! This is a testament to the dedication and care our team puts in each and every day at learning new skills including respiratory skills to support participants with complex progressive neurological conditions."

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office
"I'm grateful that Better Rehab creates ways for employees to effectively do their roles. They invest in tools, innovation, training, and consulting services. Better Rehab does not shy away in embracing and keeping up with the current market trends. The espresso machine in the office is always the cherry on top."

From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"I'm so grateful for a company that treats us with amazing Christmas parties! It’s always a good way to come together as a team and celebrate the year."
From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast
"A highlight from me was receiving a Christmas present from one of my clients. It was a homemade candle that was reportedly the scent of “monkey farts” (a.k.a banana)."

From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Having wellness days scheduled in my diary in advance has been a useful tool to ensure I stay balanced, motivated, and happy at work. It also means my doggo gets extra-long walks. I’ve taken some really beautiful wellness days in 2022, and I look forward to scheduling more next year!"

From Selah Dimech, Springwood
"I feel so encouraged everyday by my team with the ‘good mornings’, check-ins, coffee and lunch catchups, and smiles. My Springwood team are all role-models that I have learned from this year through the new-grad program. They’re encouragement strengthens my desire to be a better clinician, team member, and role model myself."
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"An unexpected win I had was when I was at an equipment store with my participant who doesn't like going out. One of the staff members came up to offer assistance, and I took her over to meet my client — who she ended up knowing! Her father and my client were best friends many years ago, and following her father passing away, my client lost all contact with their family. It was a massive reunion, both were in tears and apart from the equipment trial being successful, my client who is quite lonely and isolated, is now in regular contact with this family. Small world!"
From Arabella Napper, Alexandria
"This year, I loved the opportunity to work closely with clinicians from all across the country. I feel like we are engaging people more and more in the decisions we are making. After 4 years at Better Rehab, it's so exciting to see change driven by people on the ground. My favourite conversations have been with people about the “aha!” moments they have had in their career when it comes to valuing themselves and their time. There’s something really liberating about realising how valuable you are!"
From Selah Dimech, Springwood
"When first meeting James, a participant with ASD, he was feeling discourged from pursuing his dream of starting a photography business due to the perceived barriers from his condition. 7 months later, James has commenced the journey of starting his photography business, and I have had the pleasure of working alongside his speech pathologist to ensure he is able to keep up with the communication and self-management tasks related to running it smoothly. James will have his first photography session soon!"

Allysa helped me feel at ease, and we laughed about it afterwards."

Better Rehab did not only create jobs but also opportunities for people outside Australia to be part of such an amazing company. I love seeing how the team continues to grow not only in number but also professionally with the company."
From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast
"A memorable moment for me this year was supporting one of my participants to understand his emotions. He was struggling to express his feelings until one day he explained that he felt like his emotions were like a train going down a track. We were able to put this into a visual plan with each “train station” being a different emotional zone. He now identifies strongly with this, and uses this approach to help others understand him as well."

From Haidee Liza Yap, Support Office

From Sarah Goodman Gold Coast
"A big highlight for me was with the first client who I ever had on my caseload at Better Rehab. I’ve been working with him for over 18 months now, and we’ve been really targeting social skills and how to feel more confident in social settings. He recently told me that he was invited to a birthday party this weekend with a new friend he's made. He said it's the first time he's ever been invited to a party in his life, and he had so much fun!"

"One of my favourite wins for the year was with a participant who had chemical restraint in place for over 5 years. Since implementing her behaviour support plan, her behaviours had reduced so much that I wrote a letter to her doctor explaining this. The doctor agreed to cease the chemical restraint, meaning she now has no restrictive practices in place and her quality of life has increased so much."
From Sarah Goodman Gold Coast

I love working alongside clinicians from other disciplines as it makes it so much more special when our shared participant reaches their goals. In all my experiences working with other Better Rehabbers, the approach has been collaborative, supportive, and always a positive experience."
From Kirsten Burke, Stones Corner
"I am incredibly proud of the amazing clinical outcomes from our Better at Home physiotherapy team. Throughout 2022, they have provided exceptional care to over 440 patients following either a knee or hip replacement. And as a result of their high level of compassion, empathy, and person-centred care, we have a 30-day readmission rate of only 1.3% for knees compared to the 3.4% that the research predicts, and only 1.1% for total hip,s which is substantially lower than the 6% 30-day readmission rate that the research reports. I couldn’t be prouder of our amazing clinical outcomes and the amazing team we have here at Better Rehab."

From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"I love how invested everyone gets in decorating the office to celebrate the different events! We have some very creative people on the GC. It brings the team together."

"Having an epic supervisor, Ash Wheatley, makes me a much more confident and knowledgeable OT. Ash is always ready for a chat, guidance, and always encourages me to achieve my clinical goals. Supervision is always a time I look forward to, and makes us Better Together. ❤ She’s also a great sport, and learnt how to make a ‘dumpling’ through use of the CO-OP approach."

"My highlight of the year was getting an eye-gaze device approved and set-up for my client with a spinal cord injury. We started the process nearly 18-months ago. He was using an old eye-gaze device that was prescribed to him when he first had his injury. The device was very slow, which limited his independence significantly as he could only use it on his computer and it required a lengthy password to be put in every time the computer went to sleep.
His goals were to have a device that he could have more independence and privacy. He previously was fully reliant on his carers to open his phone for him and send text messages. Unfortunately, because he was requesting a plan with a lot of home modifications and equipment, it took the NDIS more than a year to process it. In this time, a new eye-gaze device run through an iPad became available in Australia. It worked out perfectly that we had to wait until the following year to put the request in because we didn’t, we wouldn’t have been able to get this particular device for him. This device allows him to unlock his phone, send text messages, make phone calls, use the internet and other applications independently. He was so happy when we set the device up that he said it felt like Christmas!"
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"My participant was such a joy to work with. He was always so appreciative of me and excited to book in OT appointments — as was I! A massive achievement we shared was having a custom mobility scooter approved and delivered during COVID times. He used the scooter most days to access his local community and to visit his favourite Spanish bar. Sadly, my participant passed away earlier this year; however, I know he had so many beautiful community visits because of his trusty mobility scooter."
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Through guidance from my fellow OTs, I was able to trial and consequently have a custom shower commode approved and delivered to my long-time participant. The OT team at Mulgrave are always happy to chat and make equipment supplier recommendations, which supported the AT provision process. We are definitely better together!"
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"I love the pump and energy surrounding Halloween each year. I love how invested Better Rehab gets around costumes and decorating the office. It genuinely gets spookier and spookier each year!"
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Wins are either big or small, but watching my participant make fried rice was a huge win!!! This participant didn’t think they could engage in meal preparation, but slowly, with some regular AHA and OT appointments, she accomplished her goal! Wooohoo!"
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"HOW COOL ARE THE BEANBAGS IN THE OFFICE?! It’s no secret I like to write a report on the beanbags and be in a very chill mode. Productively looks different on everyone."
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Seeing my participant finally receive her long awaited PWC is the best win as an OT. You cannot beat the feeling of seeing a participant use their new AT for the first time!"
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Getting into the silly season is always extra fun when the whole team can decorate the office. I love how creative we can be, and no decoration is too silly or unrealistic!!!!"
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Another highlight this year was watching my participant feel excited to use his visual checklist after brainstorming and creating it together. He can now independently complete all of the tasks required prior to leaving his unit!"
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave
"Working with a multidisciplinary team is the definition of ‘Better Together’. Working alongside SP Brianna Spencer has been lots of fun as we determine suitable low cost AT for our participant’s eating and feeding. A plate surround and built up cutlery have been trialled, and we continue to research alternative options to make it easier for the participant."
From Jordana Meinrath, Mulgrave

From Sarah Goodman, Gold Coast
"The Gold Coast office has a tradition of taking polaroid photos at every Christmas party and placing them all around the office. It’s always so much fun to look back and see how much fun we have had each year. We are already looking forward to take some more next year."
From Elyshia Hibbert, Briar Hill
"It’s no secret that we love spending time together outside of work when it comes to the Briar Hill team.
On this occasion, our very own Sarah Huntington arranged an evening of burgers and laser tag for our monthly social event. As fate would have it, there was a bit of a wait to play laser tag after loading each persons game fee onto the one Timezone card. The venue was understaffed and the person running laser tag needed to have their dinner break.
After playing two rounds of laser tag, we swiped the card to spend the last few dollars on the prize machines. The card had over $100 remaining on it! Each person tried their hand at playing the claw prize games with a few winning their own toy. With the remaining last few dollars, Angus and Georgia gave a machine at the front a go. All they needed to do was press the button when they felt the scissors was in the right position to cut the string. Angus tried and failed. Georgia tried and won on her first go. The cabinet containing a massive haul of prizes popped open to our shock, with the sign saying winner takes all! Each of us picked up the prizes. Some of which were given to a young family who were watching us play.
It was a great night full of spontaneity and laughs overall."
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"A highlight for me was my participant who has absolutely smashed her goal of showering every day (she was only showering once a week). She has rated herself 10/10 for performance and satisfaction from a 1/10. When we were talking about the days that are harder to be motivated to shower, I asked what pushes her to still do it. She said, "Because I know I will get to tell you and that you will be proud of me." One of those simple but meaningful comments that reminds you why you do what you do."
From Megan Mott, Dee Why
"I really enjoyed seeing our team members faces when they spin the birthday wheel and get amazing bonuses!"
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"I love how Better Rehab supports and values new grads. They took me on as a fresh OT 3 years ago and I couldn’t have chosen anywhere better to start my career."
From Anita Bjorkman, Mulgrave
"I reassessed a participant with a complex upper limb injury following an accident and also removal of a tumour. His goal is to be able to throw a ball for his dog using his affected limb.
In June, he was able to throw the ball 1.8 metres with E-Stim and 1.4 metres without. Today, he was able to throw the ball 4.8 metres with E-stem and 4.02 metres without!!!
His outcomes are better with the regular input from Better Rehab’s Physio, EP, OT and AHA & hydro, supporting his balance, posture, strength, shoulder stability, hand and arm function!
Shoutout to the clinicians who worked with me on this case: Joren Admiraal (EP), Jake Wilton (PT), Anita Bjorkman (OT), and Vincent Ong, Cate Kostanas & Celine Lim (AHAs for land base and Hydro)
Happy Holidays!"
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast

From Anita Bjorkman, Mulgrave

"A highlight for me was when we recently trialled a video magnifier for my participant with vision loss. This device allows her to colour in and read books again — two meaningful hobbies she has been missing for so long."
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"A highlight for me this year was the changes in NDIS AT processes. Being able to do the mid-cost summary reports instead of full AT reports for certain AT has sped things up and saved participants on funding. Approvals are way quicker now — happening within 1-2 weeks of submission. Previously we could be waiting 6-12 months for an outcome. This is a huge win!"
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"One of my participants with complex mental health made the realisation that she wasn't taking her medication on the weekend and then felt awful until Wednesday each week. She was also inconsistent with timing as she sleeps a lot. We got her a tab timer medication dispenser, and it has made a huge difference. She has been setting it up on her own and hasn't missed her medication since using it. She is noticing huge benefits to her thinking and energy. It's only a basic intervention, but the impact it has had for her is amazing, and is now allowing her to work on bigger goals."
From Emma Hay, Gold Coast
"I am grateful we have easy access to a very talented IT team who seem to fix any problem that comes their way in speed times!"

From Elyshia Hibbert, Briar Hill
"Members of the Briar Hill Team helped each other through the 5 km foam fest obstacle course a few weeks ago. We supported each other especially in obstacles that challenged fear of heights. All of us stayed together from beginning to end as a team and celebrated the great achievement of completing the obstacle course with a wine tasting at St. Anne’s Winery."
From Elyshia Hibbert, Briar Hill
"The Briar Hill netball team 'Goalsetters' have been playing together for a couple of years now. When they started playing, the goal was simply to win a game. Last week, we played at our first ever Grand Finals. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day but we put in our best efforts and were excited to make it to the grand finals in the first place.
